Details: Product description Red Dragon - Director's Edition Amazon.ca Hollywood producers have a hard time not stretching the vein of a successful film. So after Hannibal, which followed up the excellent Silence of the Lambs is now the “past” that we unveil in Red Dragon, directed by Brett Ratner. Former FBI agent Will Graham lives a peaceful retirement, until the day when the heinous murders of a terrible schizophrenic, decked out with the sweet nickname of “Red Dragon” in homage to a painting by William Blake, force him to resume of service. To understand the inner workings of the psychopath's mind, he will have no choice but to call on the no less terrible Hannibal Lecter, whom he himself had arrested. Even though Red Dragon fields solid actors like Ed Norton, Emily Watson, Harvey Keitel and, of course, Sir Anthony Hopkins, it still suffers from major inconsistencies. First, the too modern cinematographic treatment seems anachronistic compared to the action supposed to take place in the 80s. Then, the relationship between Norton and Hopkins never reaches the seductive and perverse intensity that linked Jodie Foster to the cannibal. There is only a balance of power between the two men that lacks a certain subtlety to be truly worrying. The film can however count on a well-executed suspense, in particular thanks to the late arrival of the killer, played by a crazy and vulnerable Ralph Fiennes, and on a spectacular finale. This final point (hopefully!) to Dr. Lecter's trilogy will therefore still bring back the expected chills. --Helen Faradji
