One day, he is recruited by the ANC to fight against racial segregation. Although Mandela has always wanted to lead a non-violent struggle, he is forced to use force to make himself heard. He then founded the military branch of the ANC. In 1962, he was arrested by the South African police and sentenced to life imprisonment. Mandela is held prisoner on Robben Island where he undergoes inhuman treatment. After 27 years of imprisonment, Mandela is finally released under the orders of President Frederik de Klerk.
