* Discographic premiere
Jean-Michel Dubé is the youngest of five children, four of whom are pianists. At the age of three, he began piano at home with his mother, herself a pianist. At the age of seven, he entered the Conservatoire de musique de Québec. In 2015, he won the grand prize at the Concours Hélène-Roberge, which allowed him to record the works of André Mathieu, thanks to Espace XXI and Aramusique. This disc is a world premiere, as his complete works for piano had never been recorded before. This recording, chosen as "Discovery CD of the month" in November 2016 by the magazine Scena musicale, was also featured on Radio-classique and Ici Musique.
In the spring of 2016, Jean-Michel Dubé won the Grand Prix at the Festival-Concours de musique classique Pierre-de-Saurel, which offered him the opportunity to record a second CD. He chose once again to dedicate this album to André Mathieu, presenting works for solo piano, a Concertino for two pianos, and vocal melodies, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death in 2018. Seven of the 16 recorded works are discographic premieres.
