Details: The whims of Caesar, who spends his holidays in the town of Rahatlocum, in North Africa, quickly provoke the ire of the inhabitants. The opportunity is unexpected for the consul Demetrius, who takes advantage of the situation to foment a plot against the emperor; Looking for a scapegoat in the crowd, he finds there the garage owner Ben-Hur Marcel, who hasn't asked anyone for anything... Very successful when it was released in theaters, Quarter to two before Jesus Christ quickly became a cult film, thanks to ingredients that leave nothing to chance: a dream cast, with a number of recognized comedians (Coluche in the lead) and misfit actors and a large cast of cathodic 80s celebrities dressed in armor and breastplates (Yves Mourousi, Léon Zitrone…), in a parody of anachronistic peplum. As always with Jean Yanne, the whole thing is mixed with a sharp look and criticism of our society (even if A Quarter to Two... is less successful in this area than other films by its director, such as Tout the world is beautiful, everyone is nice or The Chinese in Paris). A very good moment, resolutely wacky, to (re)discover with this DVD of excellent quality.
