Living legend of the French police, Commissioner Pierre Niémans (Jean Reno) travels to the university town of Guernon, in order to investigate the murder of the local faculty librarian. The body of the latter was found in the mountains, suspended in the void and savagely mutilated... In the small town of Sarzac, about 200 km from Guernon, the young lieutenant Max Kerkérian (Vincent Cassel) is investigating the desecration from the tomb of a certain Judith Hérault, who died in a traffic accident in 1982, at the age of 10… In Guernon, Niémans discovered a second corpse, which bore the same traces of mutilation as the first victim. He is none other than the suspect sought by Kerkérian. murder.
