Details: Amazon.ca Screenwriter and director of successful Quebec comedies, such as Wedding night, Emile Gaudreault continues its momentum with Mambo Italiano, his second feature film, a whimsical and colorful portrait of the Italian community in Montreal. In an Italian family, when a child leaves the house, it means that he is dead or married. So when Angelo Barberini, 27, leaves his parents and his sister Anna without being either of them, it's a tragedy. But the volume of screams and tears will only increase when the Barberini realize that Nino, their son's roommate, is much more than just a roommate. A true little treaty of tolerance, exploding some prejudices, Mambo Italiano is a completely refreshing comedy that smells of tomato. Sunny, colorful, lively, the film operating on the principle of parodic exaggeration also knows how to be tender and moving when it evokes the difficult acceptance of the son's homosexuality by the overprotective family and by the guilt-ridden community. A perky production, a lively interpretation of Ginette Reno and Paul Sorvino as truly endearing parents, often quite pungent dialogues made tasty by the acting of Luke Kirby (Angelo) then quickly make us forget the outcome brought too quickly and the few scenes bordering on the caricature. – Helen Faradji.
