Details: Bachir Lazhar is a middle-aged Algerian immigrant seeking political refuge in Quebec. Bachir jumps at the opportunity to replace a Montreal elementary school teacher who committed suicide one night after class. The school's overworked principal is initially relieved. Bachir finds he has to deal with a 10-year-old pupil who is traumatized because he discovered the body of his teacher, and a girl whose interpretation of the event and resentment toward her friend provokes unforeseen revelations.-----After having learned of the death of a teacher in a sixth grade class, Bachir Lazhar, a 50-year-old Algerian will offer his services as a replacement for the school principal. He says he was a teacher in Algiers, and he is available immediately. Bachir then meets a group of shaken but endearing children. The gap between them appears from the first day when Bachir offers them a dictation beyond their reach, taken from Honoré de Balzac. A somewhat enigmatic character who has also experienced a tragedy, Bachir Lazhar will take charge of a weakened class and help them get through their grief through the fundamental act of teaching. At school, no one knows about his Algerian life and suspects that he risks expulsion from Canada at any time.
