Details: Fans of Baka & Test will be pleased to find that life doesn't get easier for Akihisa Yoshii and his friends at Fumizuki Academy in the second season (2011). The Summoner Test Wars, in which students call up avatars to fight for social status, take a back seat to the emotional setback. The various romantic polyhedra stumble along, fueled by misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and plain old foot-in-mouth disease. Argumentative Minami likes kindhearted Akihisa, who likes pretty, smart Himeji--a triangle that's complicated by the arrival of Miharu, an even more argumentative girl who's smitten with Minami. Pretty, rich Shouko insists she and bad-boy Yuuji are engaged. Kudou continues his ninja-photographer activities; the fan service jiggle shots and breast-size jokes give him so many nosebleeds from lust, he's learned to give himself transfusions. Hideyoshi remains trapped between genders. The boys find themselves literally and figuratively out of their depth on a summer outing to the beach, and a trip to a rural study camp degenerates into an all-out campaign to peek at the girls' bath. The filmmakers do a better job of balancing the insanity with gentler moments that make the characters more appealing than they did in the first season. Yuuji was a child prodigy in elementary school who started fighting when his arrogance got him and Shouko in trouble with older bullies. After spending time in Germany as a girl, Himeji struggled to adjust to her new school when she returned to Japan, an adjustment good-natured Akihisa facilitated.
