Originally from the Republic of Guinea in West Africa, Alpha Thiam is a fascinating singer-songwriter, composer, and guitarist. Now based in Montreal for several years after having traveled throughout West Africa for over forty years, he presents his self-titled debut album.

Winner of the Bronze Syli at the 2008 Festival International Nuits d’Afrique, 2008 MMM Discovery, and recipient of a grant from the Conseil des Arts de la Ville de Montréal tour in 2009, Alpha Thiam delivers a solid performance accompanied by short stories and anecdotes, allowing the audience to appreciate every song, whether sung in Pulaar, Mandinka, or Susu.

Accompanied on stage by seasoned musicians, Alpha Thiam presents a fusion of African music, where the sounds of the kora, bass, and percussion blend harmoniously with his guitar playing. Alpha Thiam’s music will transport you to a world folk sound scented with African essences and tinged with blues, funk, and Quebecois influences.
