Details: Amazon.ca Stephen Faulkner proudly displays his country rock in this imposing Anthology 1975-1992, which includes the complete version of his first two albums, a few tracks from the Caboose disc as well as demos and 45 rpm. In all, 43 songs that retrace the exemplary career of this urban cowboy, a free and uncompromising artist. The first titles of this double compact ("Jonquière", "Pleine Lune") date from the fertile period when he was called Cassonade, when he scoured the clubs of the Belle Province with his sidekick Plume Latraverse. We are surprised to hum "If I had a tank", we smile listening to "My big black horse of love", we are moved by the setbacks of "Doris", one of the most beautiful pieces of the Quebec repertoire on the ups and downs of an artist's life. The restored ribbons perfectly capture its simple, endearing prose and country influences. We will forgive him a few missteps in what remains an honest journey – we would do well, for example, with the “Rap du pape”, a short story without consequence. Because this anthology indisputably places Stephen Faulkner among the greats of local song. --Diane John
