Details: Product Description Denzel Washington makes his triumphant directorial debut and Derek Luke shines in his first big-screen role in "one of the most touching, heartwarming films of the year." (Jeffrey Lyons, WNBC-TV) Inspired by the true life experiences of its title character, Antwone Fisher tells the dramatic story of a troubled sailor (Luke) who is ordered to see a naval psychiatrist (Washington) about his volatile temper. Little does he know that his first step into the doctor's office will lead him on a remarkable emotional journey to confront his painful past--and connect with the family he never knew. Amazon.ca The real Antwone Fisher, by writing a screenplay about his own life, certainly knew how to find the words to reach Denzel Washington's heart. For the occasion, the Oscar-winning actor decided to take his first steps behind the camera. The result is just like him: moving, full of hope, and humanist. Born in prison, abandoned by his mother, raised by a foster mother, beaten, and raped, Antwone Fisher (Derek Luke) really did not have an easy life. Today a member of the Marine Corps, he suffers from serious anger issues that force him to consult a psychologist (Denzel Washington). The relationship between the two men will quickly transcend the professional framework. Denzel Washington is a genuinely good man. And you can feel it in his film. For while the psychoanalyst in Good Will Hunting had to show his teeth to earn the respect of his brilliant patient, the one in Antwone Fisher is more like a sort of spiritual guru, who will show him the "right" path to rediscover his roots and bring his talent to light. Of course, so much sentimentality can be annoying at times, but great directorial ideas, solid flashbacks evoking the young man's sordid childhood, and a completely convincing performance prevent Antwone Fisher from sinking into total mawkishness. --Helen Faradji
