Details: Product Description Jeszcze Raz Amazon.ca "Balagane" means mess in both Hebrew and Polish. One could not dream of a better title for this second album by the Montreal group Jeszcze Raz. With Balagane, the band founded by Polish-born pianist Paul Kunigis offers us a fusion of Eastern and Western influences. It is Yves Desrosiers, who is also responsible for the production of the essential La Llorona, by Lhasa de Sela, who presides over this melancholic journey with Gypsy accents. In the foreground, Kunigis's haunting voice tells stories of exile ("Tibériade"), brotherhood ("Bamidbar"), and love ("Yahayouni") in four languages, enveloped by percussion, accordion, violin, trombone, piccolo, and more. While the first Jeszcze Raz opus, Pamietam, went relatively unnoticed, Balagane is one of those records that seems to get better with every listen. And we can rejoice that it is deepening the still-fresh furrow of world music in Quebec. --Pascale Millot
