Details: “January 14, 1986, left its mark on an entire generation.” On that day in the Malian desert, when the Paris-Dakar rally management helicopter crashed, the passing of Daniel Balavoine was not just the loss of a singer. It would take a few years to fully grasp the measure of his legacy, with immense songs that defined an era, of course, but also a unique way of daring to be an artist. 30 years later, the label Capitol Music France will pay tribute to him with a unique album, Balavoine(s), to be released in Quebec on January 22, 2016, in which the pride of contemporary French music will revisit the artist’s greatest hits. Daniel had raced the Paris-Dakar three times; he had returned to monitor the installation of water pumps in the desert and raise public awareness about the needs of Africa. It is also the desire to highlight Daniel Balavoine’s humanitarian commitment that defines the project, along with a real contribution to his work: a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Daniel Balavoine Association, which continues to work on improving crop irrigation in Africa. An exceptional collaboration between talented current singers to keep Daniel Balavoine’s causes alive.
