Details: Amazon.ca Luc Plamondon, considered by many to be one of the greatest French songwriters of the past 30 years, returns to the charge with Cindy, Cendrillon 2002. After the phenomenal success of the musical show Notre-Dame de Paris, inspired by the novel by Victor Hugo, the most sung Quebec author in the world plays this time the card of the fairy tale revisited in words and music. In this umpteenth version, Cinderella lives in the suburbs of Paris with her wicked stepmother, ex-disco singer, and her two half-sisters. She will meet Ricky, Prince Charming disguised as a rock star, in a trendy nightclub… The result is not quite up to Plamondon's reputation. The texts take up several of the end-of-millennium themes already covered, in a more original way, in his musical comedy Starmania, written in 1979. The performers, French and Quebec (a habit at Plamondon), do what they can with material rather thin: very candy pop music, signed Romano Musumarra, who has worked with Alain Delon, Ray Charles, Pavarotti… and Stéphanie de Monaco. We will especially notice the phenomenal voice of the Canadian Patsy Gallant and the well-felt interpretation of the Quebecer Judith Bérard in the song "Salaud". For fans only. --Jean-Yves Girard
