Author: Bateau Noir

Format: Original recording

Release Date: 21-09-2018

Details: Six years after La Sauvagerie des heures, a striking and acclaimed debut EP, Bateau Noir returns with a self-titled album gathering ten abrasive instrumental tracks. With its guitar-driven melodic lines, martial percussion, and frenetic riffs, the set produced by the quintet pushes all sorts of boundaries. One can discern "indie" influences, punk spirit, and a few metal hooks. While distant traces of Fugazi and Joy Division appear here and there, the result primarily translates into sinuous and rigorous rock, with dense and punchy compositions. Conceived as early as 2010, this album was brought to life in Montreal under the watchful eye of Jocelyn Gagné (Breastfeeders) and Julien Mineau (Malajube, Fontarabie) on sound engineering, then mixed by Ryan Battistuzzi, the man behind Malajube's Trompe-l’œil album.
