Details: Over the past 250 years, the great orchestral tradition has never stood aside from provocative and humanistic reflection. Beethoven loved nothing so much as soaking up the beauties of nature, he also considered it essential to protest against the progressive disappearance of the forests of Vienna, unable to resist the attacks of urbanization. Two centuries later, the blatant degradation of our planet obliges us more than ever to act, and orchestral programming can contribute to this process. As a natural extension of the OSM's two other Beethoven projects, Kent Nagano conceived this program as a reflection on the state of the unstable link that society maintains with its environment. In this case, the acceleration of the pulsation of Symphony No. 8 and the density of the contrapuntal language of the Great Fugue will thus duplicate the feeling of urgency that should animate us.
