BIOGRAPHY
Bette & Wallet is Mary Beth Carty of Antigonish County, Nova Scotia and Gabriel F. Ouellette of Portneuf County, Quebec. They make recycled music, an art form designed to combat cultural imperialism, one answer song at a time. Juxtaposing contemporary lyrics to old melodies, Bette & Wallet sing about squeegees, the perils of city life, auto worship, civil servant week, and more. They blend the sounds of their respective homelands with klezmer, Irish, Cajun, and progressive rock influences to create a danceable cultural quilt. Alber Weber of Déferlantes Le Mag, recently described their music as “a gust of wind or a cool wave that gets you wet without warning. Stimulating and friendly.” Bette & Wallet's initiatory album, Voie..., recorded at home and released independently, earned them invitations to numerous festivals and nominations for several awards.
Always pushing the limits of the genre, their second opus: Electric.
