The bluesman has judiciously selected 14 tracks that wonderfully synthesize his career: we find original compositions ("Snow Falling Grey Day"), traditional tunes ("House of the Rising Sun"), popular covers ("Hit the Road Jack"), or more obscure ones ("Buzzard Luck"). Walsh also alternates between rich and stripped-down orchestrations, not hesitating to reconnect with a string quartet or call upon a brass section. The musician thus achieves a very nice balance and delivers an album that is as dynamic as it is warm, leaving no room for boredom. The performances are flawless: not only is Walsh in fine voice, but his band, which includes harmonicist Guy Bélanger and bassist Jean Cyr, is also on fire! The contributions of the numerous guests give each of the tracks a unique character: Steve Hill, Gilles Sioui, and, above all, Jeff Healey shine on guitars, while Dawn Tyler Watson and Kim Richardson excel on backing vocals. This is an opus that will reconcile fans of the early Walsh with those who took an interest in his more commercial side. Highly recommended! --Nicolas Houle
