Although they started with classics on the order of Modern Life Is Rubbish and Parklife, the band turned their back on their past in 1997 with Blur, an album marked by the post-rock of Tortoise and the noisy experiments of Pavement and Sonic Youth, before being remixed by, among others, Thurston Moore and Moby. Ten years after their first hit, "She's So High," Blur is compiled into 18 tracks (including a previously unreleased one, "Music Is My Radar") and features a collaboration with Marianne Faithfull. The collection captures these adventures and takes its place before the band and its leader, Damon Albarn, set off toward other pursuits. The latter, for that matter, has released a solo record influenced by the singing of Malian griots, and in particular Ali Farka Touré, of whom he is a fan.
