Details: Big Box re-edits Brun, which the former Reverend (it's more a question of his old stage name than of an obscure religious past) had published independently last May. In Bernard's words, the album could be described as “urban gospel with an old-fashioned country-blues sauce” or, in our own words, “the most touching thing we've heard in a long time. The singer-songwriter presents us with a black (or brown?) portrait of East Montreal, contrasting it with colorful characters. But Brun also delivers moments of introspection, as on "Acapulco" or "La question à 100 piasses", the latter having moreover been awarded the SOCAN Echo Prize in October 2009. And as long as you are in the category of prizes, it is important to mention that Bernard had “passed the guitar” as Bande à part said, Festival de la chanson de Petite-Vallée in 2009, by winning 6 of the 10 prizes offered. Brown is beautiful.
