Details: After establishing himself with the massive success of his previous album, Engelberg (which sold 2 million copies!), Stephan Eicher strikes hard again with 12 tracks that, between folk and rock, feast on his raspy, foggy voice, his distorted guitars, and the feverish energy of his rhythm section. To achieve this, Eicher had the good taste to surround himself with outstanding musicians, such as drummer Manu Katché, bassist Pino Palladino, and guitarist Richard Lloyd, a former member of Tom Verlaine’s band, Television. Leaving behind typical studios, the Swiss-German rocker brought them together in a hotel in Carcassonne while, curious about all artistic fusions, he playfully intertwines medieval instruments, Arabic percussion, and electric sounds. For the lyrics, he renews his collaboration with writer Philippe Djian on seven tracks of lucid nostalgia that fit perfectly into his bittersweet universe, such as the beautiful "Des hauts et des bas" and "Ni remords ni regrets." In the end, Eicher delivers a remarkable sixth album here which, in turn awarded a diamond record, easily rises to the challenge of the previous one. --Sylvie Devilette
