Details: Amazon.ca Manfreid Eicher, boss of the ECM label, has never hidden his love for the acoustic piano. Whether solo or trio most often, in a romantic vein that could be described as post-Evansian, we owe him the production of a few albums steeped in lyricism, the main jewels of which could be Facing You by Keith Jarrett, Tales Of Another by Gary Peacock (with Jarrett, again) or Open To Love by Paul Bley. Other equally fascinating musicians, from Bobo Stenson to Richard Beirach via Mal Waldron, have also been associated with the adventure of this brand. New signing at the dawn of the 2000s, Tord Gustavsen, whom few fans knew at the time of the release of this trio opus, would then already be, according to rumors, promised to a bright future - perhaps those known before him by Brad Mehldau or Bill Carrothers and Esbjörn Svensson. This musician comes from Norway, here accompanied by the subtle Harald Johnsen on double bass and Jarle Vespestad on drums (already discovered within the electro-jazz combo Supersilent), to whom Changing Places owes a lot. Because the complicity is total between these three, which prevents the whole, exclusively composed of ballads, from sinking into the sentimentality that awaits this kind of enterprise. On the contrary, from "Deep As Love" to "Songs Of Yerning" (solo), the tension never weakens, although what is said there is more of a whisper. That is to say, all in shades and halftones. --Philip Robert Product description Double Bass – Harald Johnsen Drums – Jarle Vespestad Piano, Composed By – Tord Gustavsen
