Without completely abandoning its garage rock origins à la Stones-Velvet Underground, the Montreal combo led by Jimmy Hunt draws as much on French pop song from the 60s and 70s as on North American roots-country-rock roots on this first full album. . Charlebois has already been there and it is precisely of him, and of others like Dutronc, Dylan, the Wampas or Hasil Adkins, that one thinks of when listening to this “ Elegant Piano ”.

If the winks are numerous, it would however be too easy to accuse Chocolat of simple revisionism. Jimmy Hunt adopts the "pop singer-crooner" style with just enough distance not to fall into caricature, and his texts, rather well written and colorful, reveal a character that is romantic, funny and disturbing at the same time.
