Details: Amazon.ca Of the five heavyweights of Once Five (which he formed with Vigneault, Deschamps, Charlebois and Ferland), Claude Léveillée is undoubtedly the most misunderstood. Not that he worked underground: the first chansonnier to perform at the Place des Arts, he joined the very privileged circle of collaborators of the kid Piaf in Paris. However, the demanding artistic approach of this accomplished lyricist and composer has sometimes caused him to lose the attention of the general public. This double box set from Sony's Emergence collection is an opportunity to dive back into his more accessible – but still extremely sophisticated – work of the 1960s. "La Légende du cheval blanc", "Les Vieux Pianos", "Frédéric", "Le Rendez-vous": so many successes that it is good to hear again in their original version, not reworked, as on the valuable compilation My 60s. Played with agility and sensitivity, the seasoned pianist's best pieces seem "cut in the 'solid gold', to use the words of Nelligan, whose Léveillée beautifully set Le Soir d'hiver to music. Like all the titles in the collection (which notably retraces the first exploits of Gilles Vigneault, Monique Leyrac and the Séguins), this compilation provides only minimal documentation but offers a wide range of titles – 55! We thus find there the instrumental experiments of Léveillée with André Gagnon as well as his attempts at musical comedy. Question of remembering the loves of his 20 years, a little like Frédéric. -- Frederic Murphy Product Description Claude Leveille
