Creatures Of The Night therefore set the record straight, allowing Kiss to reaffirm that it was indeed one of the greatest hard bands - and incidentally the most spectacular. Yet, behind the anthology tracks, a revolution was brewing: guitarist Ace Frehley, plagued by serious alcohol problems, would soon officially give way to Vinnie Vincent and, even worse, Kiss would drop on Lick It Up the make-up that had contributed so much to its success. From then on, Kiss would never be like before (at least until 1999, with the return of Ace Frehley, drummer Peter Criss... and make-up!). Creatures Of The Night undoubtedly marks the end of an era.
