Details: Product Description De Phazz Amazon.ca Acid-jazz tracks featuring a rapper, Morcheeba-style pop, soul, zouk interludes... De Phazz plays the diversification card by opening their horizons to new genres, without losing sight of their signature style: "mainstream" jazz, long labeled "easy listening" and now included under the generic term "Lounge". Daily Lama is also a polyglot record. Indeed, with lyrics sometimes in German, sometimes in Tahitian, French, or English, the interpretation is equally eclectic, deliberately asserting an international orientation... With its dominant jazzy trip-hop sound with tango or bossa influences in the style of Pink Martini, the whole thing remains cozy and often brings to mind the compositions of the Boys from Brazil (the other face of the Gotan Project). But while there are indeed numerous similarities to other groups in the same family, between kitschy songs and funky ballads, freshness is still present in this third album, even if it doesn't bring anything particularly new to the table. What is seductive, in fact, is the variety of the tracks and the importance given to scores that are "played" rather than programmed. Thus, De Phazz has delivered a truly written album, composed of a vast majority of lyrical, light, and groovy songs. --Luc Demont
