Surrounded by a talented team, including the bluesman Ray Bonneville on lyrics and his old accomplice Bob Stagg on keyboards, Hill offers himself a record that is both modern and retro, a true summary of his musical influences. The bet could have been risky, but the Trois-Rivières residents are doing pretty well. His guitar playing is as impressive as ever, his arrangements, which call on very soulful choirs and brass instruments, are impeccable and he appropriates each of the styles he tackles with great ease. Boasting an excellent production, Domino is worth the detour, especially since it is home to two rare vocal flights of Hill in the language of Molière, which prove to be two successes: "Les Eaux troubles" (with lyrics by Stefie Shock) and "Irréparables errors". --Nicolas Houle
