Details: Amazon.ca It is typical of Miles Davis that his final studio album saw him still exploring. This time alongside producer/rapper Bee Mo Easy it was the sounds of hip-hop/jazz crossover. Using samples from the likes of Kool and the Gang and James Brown the result is a mellow groove, similar to acid jazz with a touch of the trip hop jazz that was to follow. It's a fun album, which has suffered some overt criticism since its release due to critics' expectation that a genius like Miles should have signed off with a classic (and plainly Doo Bop is not). And the sad truth is that Bee Mo Easy's rapping brings new meaning to the word trite with the lyrics concentrating solely on how wonderful Miles is. But that said, despite its flaws it still trashes a good number of others in the genre. Not least because Miles' playing was marvellous to the end. So not a classic, but still one which is thoroughly enjoyable. Sit back and listen to a master trying out new things to the end of his days. And dream of what he could have sounded like with a band like Massive Attack. --Phil Brett Product Description Miles Davis
