Details: Les Ekorches was created by four legends of the Montreal metal scene: Mark Vaillancourt (B.A.R.F.) on vocals, Michel 'Away' Langevin (Voivod) on drums, Philippe Mius d'Entremont on cello, and Pat Gordon (Ghoulunatics) on acoustic guitar. Four pillars of the Quebec scene have joined forces to create acoustic hardcore-metal in French. They play with their guts, scream their hatred, and strike with power enough to strip paint off the walls. Things need to be shaken up... and with their self-titled debut album on the independent label Indica Records, Les Ékorchés are ready to deliver the biggest "shot to the jaw" of 2007. These seasoned musicians have been touring the music scene for over 20 years. With their respective bands, they have blazed trails through the underground scene in Quebec and internationally. They share the same passion for hardcore metal, along with a need to uniquely depict the social problems they face. And so, a night of drinking, an impromptu phone call, a chance meeting... and Les Ékorchés were born. The lineup features "screamer" Mark Vaillancourt of the late hardcore outfit B.A.R.F.; on drums, none other than Michel "Away" Langevin of the legendary psychedelic-metal band Voivod; on amplified acoustic guitar, the intense Pat Gordon of the indescribable Ghoulunatics; and on cello, the passionate Philippe Mius d'Entremont of the eclectic band Maruka. A hundred thousand miles away from wanting to create a commercial project, these stage beasts simply want to have fun and convey their lucid message entirely in French. The pleasure of reconnecting with old-school hardcore and delivering it using acoustic instruments is an idea that had been bouncing around in Mark Vaillancourt's head for 15 years. He found unleashed cohorts to bring raw lyrics to life, blended with a unique, enraged, and powerful sound. Les Ékorchés do not hide the violence in their lyrics, with evocative titles like "D'la viande cé murs" (Meat on the walls), "Shot ça yeule" (Shut your trap), "Haine" (Hatred), or even "Amourir" (Love to die)... but as Mark says: "I think I always have a positive message. I denounce the 'crap.' We won't succeed in changing the world by closing our eyes. I can't talk about it without adding a swear word, because I don't understand the behavior of pedophiles and killers... my way of expressing it is by giving them some 'crap'." In the track "La Poly," the rage of the heart is shouted directly at the author of the massacre: "...what could have happened to you to want to kill them all... how far did they hurt you to want to get rid of them... the world screaming, panicked, you wanted to massacre them all... now that your blood is splattered, there is no one to mourn you; all that remains behind you is a handful of broken families..." The fifteen screams on the album represent realizations regarding the grim and pathetic atmosphere the band observes every day. For Away: "It's our way of getting involved by denouncing growing problems, because what is happening locally is also happening in every major city in the world." And this liberating fury, Les Ékorchés are preparing to spread across the province starting February 27th, thanks to their impressive network of contacts. The trust placed in them by Indica represents the best way for them to remain honest and true to their roots while moving forward, as they are aware of the fleeting trends of the music industry despite the impressive new wave emerging. Their philosophy is simple: they do what they have to do and will see where this "acousticore" adventure leads them. One thing is certain, they want to offer fans "the biggest punch in the face they'll have received all year!"
