Raised on his parents' prog rock, Etienne Dufresne taught himself guitar and first infiltrated the Montreal scene as a photographer, before trading his camera for his songs following a string of romantic and professional setbacks. His debut EP, Sainte-Colère, released in February 2020, was a convincing appetizer blending synth-pop and electro-folk. The project seemed destined for a bright future (appearing on mid-year charts for ICI Musique and Sirius XM, receiving a GAMIQ nomination, and being presented at Rideau and ROSEQ) until the pandemic halted its momentum.

Etienne decided to take advantage of this temporal abyss and set to work writing his first album. Co-produced with Félix Petit (Les Louanges, Laurence-Anne), Excalibur is a skillful assembly of deconstructed genres. Etienne reaffirms his writing style across 11 songs where the precision of the words carries more weight than lyrical flights of fancy. Very much of its time, it is music that gathers a multitude of influences to form a homogeneous and unique sound that stands out from current Francophone offerings.
