Details: Amazon.ca Eric Shrody was just a rhyming teenager when he met Ice T in Los Angeles and became the rapper's protege as head of the Rhyme Syndicate Cartel. In 1990, when his first album was released, Everlast was one of the few white rappers in circulation, along with the Beastie Boys. A detail he doesn't care about and which he addresses in passing through "Speak No Evil". Besides, he doesn't try to imitate his African-American colleagues, and does quite well thanks to his nervous delivery and his sharp tongue. He chatters at high speed on "Syndicate Soldier", accompanied by rock percussion and a jazzy trumpet, incorporating his influences to better assert his difference. He invites dance and tolerance on "The Rhythm", a more groovy piece with female choirs. And plays the bad boys with aplomb on "Fuck Everyone", an excellent start for the continuation of the adventures that he would live with House Of Pain, a group founded after the unfair failure of his solo album. --Isabelle Chelley
