In a Haitian town, Samuel's peaceful life is brutally disrupted following the kidnapping by the army of his journalist father. Forced to flee, Samuel then embarks clandestinely for the United States where he hopes to find his mother who was said to be dead. From Miami to Montreal via New York, her journey is punctuated by encounters with people living on the fringes of North American society.
