Details: Amazon.ca Housed in its neat metal box, Fabric 06 features Canadian DJ Tyler Stadius, spinning out a stripped-down mix of X-ray beats, throbbing with monomaniac intensity. Stadius was born in Toronto, but grew up in Portugal, raiding his father's record collection while still a tot. By 1992, he'd shifted back to Canada, running his Romper Room residency in Vancouver. Lately, Tyler loves to play at London's Fabric club. He's poised with a skeletal pulse, forever hinting at some kind of trouncing release, but keeping us waiting for most of the duration while subtly building the tension. Tyler's spiraling event horizon is teeming with ghostly echoes, vocal snatches fed in from the outskirts, wafting over metallic snicks and muffled kick-drums. Flooded basslines pulse to a marching motion, a single-minded stomp that's infected by 70s disco and 80s robotics, trimmed with Latino percussion. It's like a perverted aerobics class. Stadius repeatedly returns to DJ Buck and Jay Tripwire, with the latter's "All the Swine" signaling a meaner, harder climax, swiftly followed by the horny gasps of his "Allnight". Nothing lets up then until the closing "King in My Empire", featuring the lightly-sugared reggae vocals of Cornell Campbell. -- Martin Longley
