It was while stumbling upon an article by Marie Allard that Sherbrooke-based singer-songwriter Frank Custeau discovered he belonged to the Xennials, that hybrid generation neither quite X nor entirely Y. The concept would provide a title for the already underway writing of the thematic "Xénial Blues," released on January 29, 2021.
"Xénial Blues" is about the disillusionments of a naive almost-40-year-old who is quietly accepting that he will not be a rock star.
For the creation of the album, Frank surrounded himself with Xennial friends, like him nostalgic for an era of cassette tapes and no autotune. It was only natural that partners Alex Crow (Diane Dufresne, Vulgaires Machins, Elisapie, Aut’ Chose) and Luc Jr. Bélisle (Greenwood, 2Frères) decided to steal sound textures from their idols, from the sixties to the nineties. Bélisle's powerful drums and the old-school saxophones of Philippe Poirier (Cirque du Soleil) provide groovy colors to this solid production by Alex Crow, a spicy folk-rock mid-thirties crisis.
