Unclassifiable, irreverent, and above all unpredictable, Fred Fortin never stops reinventing himself. Back as a solo artist following the caustic adventure of the band Gros Mené in 1998, he returns on Le plancher des vaches with a trash-folk album featuring very down-to-earth, if not primal, lyrics.

His songs talk about crab lice ("Gaston"), erections ("Bandé dedans mon lit"), or masturbation ("Chaouin"), but also about time slipping away and love "finding it hard." The tone oscillates between indifference and derision. Yet, even these neglected lyrics, these approximate guitars, and these backyard rhythms bear the mark of extraordinary talent and sensitivity.

Less polished than Joseph Antoine Frédéric Fortin Perron, released in 1996, Le plancher des vaches still bears witness to a fierce independence of spirit and a desire to provoke that fans of Plume Latraverse or Mononc' Serge will easily understand. Chaste ears should abstain.
