He was rediscovered in 1996 through his participation in the Ry Cooder-produced Buena Vista Social Club album and film. He become especially well-known via the hit 'Chan Chan', as well as the famous "Oui parle francais", used by numerous travel agencies to attract tourists to Cuba.
