Details: Everything destined Juliette Gréco to one day record a disc of songs by Jacques Brel. But Gréco knew and loved Brel's music too much for recording it to be a mere formality or an evidence. On the contrary, she made it both a work of fidelity, out of friendship for the author she knew, but also a true interpretation. To record these songs, Juliette Gréco and Gérard Jouannest called on Bruno Fontaine, who emulated François Rauber, the arranger and third accomplice of the Brel-Jouannest-Rauber trio. He knew how to find the right tone, with magnificent arrangements, both respectful and innovative, which weave a perfect musical carpet for Juliette's voice. We find in this album the essentials that Gréco interprets on stage: "J'arrive", "Ne Me Quitte Pas"... renewed by the arrangements of Bruno Fontaine - just listen to the heartbreaking "Chanson des Vieux Amants" which closes the album, accompanied by the only cello of Sonia Wieder Atherton. We also discover "Amsterdam", "Ces Gens-là" or "Les Vieux"... a new repertoire for her... "Gréco sings Brel" is a rare work, full of emotions, a musical jewel, like a dream awake for Brel lovers and for everyone else. Because we hadn't heard Brel sung like that since Jacques Brel himself.
