Details: Product Description Beady Belle Amazon.ca Beady Belle—a collaboration between singer Beate Lech and bassist Marius Reksjo—are the latest Norwegian innovators to be unleashed through Bugge Wesseltoft’s acclaimed Jazzland label. Home is composed, written, and produced mainly by the talented Lech; the album draws references from traditions such as jazz, soul, and funk and updates them into contemporary formats such as drum & bass, house, and trip-hop. One of the most thrilling aspects of the album—aside from the occasional flash of inspired sound amalgamation—is Lech’s voice, which soars brilliantly across her soulful soundtracks. Like the music that backs it, it ranges from powerful and emotive to soft and seductive with ease, and possesses a consistent edge of melancholy. Whether you’re listening to the funked-up vibes of "Consolatory Dance" and "Loose and Win," the up-tempo house grooves of "Drawback," the Erykah Badu-esque "Game," or the lachrymose sorrow of "In a Good Way," you will find this a highly listenable and accessible debut with plenty of fulfilling moments. -- Paul Sullivan
