Details: Product Description Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!" is Corb Lund's fifth and highly anticipated new CD. Produced once again by Harry Stinson (Dead Reckoners, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett), the album features 12 songs written by Corb Lund. "Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!" is teeming with foreign tales of conflict and cavalry and kicks off with the gung-ho lead-off track (and first single and video), "I Wanna Be In The Cavalry". Growing up in Taber, Alberta, Lund's lineage boasts over a century of cowboys. And thanks to his keen lyrical pen, Lund's Alberta is ready to take it's place in a long line of immortal locales lucky enough to have their own poet laureates who paint vivid pictures, spin mythologies, and create memorable characters. "I believe that if you write honestly and authentically about your own culture, no matter what it is, people will pick up on the universality of it, "Corb reflects. Prominently featured on all tracks are the members of Lund's longtime touring band, "The Hurtin' Albertans" - Kurt Ciesla (bass), Brady Valgardson (drums) and Grant Siemens (guitar, banjo, steel, dobro etc). Amazon.ca Over the course of Cord Lunds decade-long solo career, he has remained the perennial cowboy, bringing with him a torch, a twang, and a penchant for penning lyrics about riding ranges and rustlin steer. While Lunds previous incarnation-frontman for indie/punk outfit The Smalls--was more political in nature, he has avoided the topic in his solo work, until 2007s Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier! Rather than tackle present-day war stories, however, Lund has chosen to detail historical battle tales in his tunes. It all begins with the stoic sounds of opening track/lead single I Wanna Be In The Cavalry within which Lund proclaims Ill wield my lance as the ponies dance/and the blackguards fire their guns to the accompaniment of a militaristic drum beat. The discs title track delivers the perspective of soldiers through the ages, from those fighting on steeds with Custer at Little Big Horn to present day Mounties. With an old-school twang a la Gatlin Brothers or Marty Robbins, most notably in the two-stepping Lament for Lester Cousins and the country waltz of The Horse I Rode In On," Lunds sounds and stories remain truly timeless. Bonus points for the latter-disc reprise of the aforementioned Calvary track, this time slowed down considerably and featuring CBC favourite Geoff Berner on accordion.--Denise Sheppard
