Face to Face / How to Ruin Everything - CD (Used)

Format: Remixes included
Release Date: 09-04-2002
Details: Amazon.ca There's a line on Face to Face's ninth CD that pretty much sums up the album: "We're ready to go / Ticking like a bomb that's about to blow." The hyper rock energy on this pop-punk album is completely palpable, both in its rush of hook-laden instrumentation and its up-by-the-bootstraps lyrics. How to Ruin Everything isn't so much a list of complaints as much as a guidebook on how not to ruin everything. That's not to say the band's outlook on life is all rosy: front man Trever Keith slides in the sarcasm now and then, as on "Why Would I Lie," in which he scoffs, "Maybe there's a chance that everything / is going to work out for the best / Maybe there's a chance / that pigs will grow wings and fly." Keith uses his muscular vocal style to speak with husky authority about various situations where people are digging their own graves. Both his advice and his delivery give a sense of maturity to the pop-punk genre, something that of fans the catchy tunes who've lost interest in younger bands' prank-filled lyrics should appreciate. --Jennifer Maerz
