Details: The word has been going around with fervor for months within young (and not so young) French rap. L'Entourage was about to put an end to its very first album, it's now done: the most prominent hip-hop collective of recent years will release its first album. For those who thought they were confined to battles (they were at the origin of the Rap Contenders project) or to solitary escapes (1995, S-Crew, Deen Burbigo, Doums, Jazzy Bazz, Eff Gee), as brilliant as they are, they were put the microphone well in the eye. L'Entourage has decided to step up a gear with a crazy fresh first try, which brings together all the living forces of one of the most anticipated posses since the Time Bomb collective. Admittedly, it took time: to gather the troops, set the schedules, scratch the texts, unify the flows, refine the beats, put everything in place. But the wait was worth it. The texts are chiseled and Oulipian, camped on futuro-vintage prods which borrow as much from the nineties (madeleine of these young MCs) as from current productions. Products of their environments, developing an acuity and a phrasing out of the ordinary pot, the Entouragiens, sometimes supported by production leaders (Clément Animalsons on a "Jim Morrison" which smells good of the French Blackstarr), often evoke adolescence spent lounging around in the streets of Paris, between failed evenings (listen to “Comme ça” and its total west coast beat) and endless days. L'Entourage is lived in the microphone, pieces which extend but always for the best, telling without headlight and without fault the life of these young modern people.
