Details: Dom André Laberge, osb is the organist of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, Quebec. He first studied at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec in Montreal, where his first teachers were Bernard Lagacé for the organ, Kenneth Gilbert for the harpsichord, Gilles Tremblay for musical analysis and Françoise Aubut for harmony and counterpoint. At the end of his studies, in 1972, he obtained a First Prize for organ, a First Prize for harpsichord and a First Prize for analysis. A recipient of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts in 1978 and 1979, Dom Laberge undertook an advanced study trip to Europe. He studied the organ in Toulouse with Xavier Darasse and the harpsichord in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt. Since his return, Dom Laberge has divided his time — in addition to his monastic duties and his tasks as prior, novice master and organist at the abbey — between private teaching and recording.
