Details: Amazon.ca With a citation at the Victoires de la Musique 2001 in the world category, the group Wock had a pretty good start in the recording world. In fact, this flagship formation of the new Senegalese scene signed a powerful record, with violently rock energy ("Sama Amie"). Wock, moreover, offers with "Kemaan" (Miracles) his first album in Wolof, a language whose poetic sweetness permeates each verse. Led by Pape Abdou Seck, and his clear, frank voice, the group gives us a model of precision and musical generosity. His inventiveness, coupled with a real sense of melody allows him judicious use of electric instruments especially. The other asset of Wock is based on the voices and harmonies ("Habibo") which will respond to the kora, while the programming adorns each track with inventive arrangements ("Djiguene"). Violin, percussion, sistrum, bouzouki complete an exuberant panoply of instruments put at the service of a flourishing writing. A very nice disc. --Jose Ruiz
