Details: Amazon.ca If Bob Marley personifies reggae, Khaled personifies raï. His hoarse and sensual voice, capable of embellishing the slightest ritornello with imaginary arabesques, broke out during the first Algerian raï Festival, in 1985. elsewhere more tolerant. The successes are linked, from "Didi" recorded in 1992 with Don Was, to "Aïcha" composed by Jean-Jacques Goldman. Bolstered by the international fame of the tour 1,2,3 soleils performed with Rachid Taha and Faudel, he then recorded Kenza, named after his second daughter. He entrusts the production to two genius hackers: Steve Hillage/System 7, ex-Gong, legend of English progressive rock and usual playmate of Rachid Taha, and Lati Kronlund, founder of the New York collective Brooklyn Funk Essential. In fourteen tracks, Khaled meets Amar, young muse of the Anglo-Pakistani scene ("El Harba Wine"), Noa, Israeli singer ("Imagine" by John Lennon) and mixes the scratches of a DJ from the hip scene New York hop ("El Aâdyene") to the drum'n'bass programming of Sam Zaman from State of Bengal, a flagship group of the Asian Underground scene ("Mele Hbiti"). Between raï and salsa, Egyptian string ensembles and avant-garde techniques, Khaled wanders his hilarious air between London, Cairo, New York and Paris, and bewitches with his music with seven flavors and twelve aromas. --Sabrina Silamo
