Amazon.ca Until recently, national music charts hadn't included a Canadian-born, teen-targeted pop phenom (a la Ciara or ), but the time and climate were certainly ripe for one. With the entry of Keshia Chanté's self-titled record, this talented young artist is quickly filling the void with a strong release. The fact that she recorded her CD at the age of 15 is impressive enough, but Keshia's music has the one-two punch of melodic hooks and the voice to back them up; a combination that can and will appeal to dance/pop music fans of any age. The tune that first brought her to the limelight was "Unpredictable", a sugar-pop track that definitely appealed to her younger audience. Other songs on the disc, however, will hook a host of age groups in via her soulful melodies, most especially the disc's highlight, "Bad Boy", an amusing, hum-able tale of wanting her boyfriend to be more hardcore and less sweet . Without overtly doing it, Keshia's debut reflects influences and pays homage to those who have given Chanté some roots: Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott, even a little Snoop-like rap all filter through the music, showing that this girl has been doing her homework. Fellow Canadian Shawn Desman (singer of recent dance hit "Get Ready") is also all over this disc, co-writing almost every track. With such a soulful voice and two Juno nominations to boot, Chanté has some staying power, and her talents are strong enough to see her through pop radio's short attention span. --Denise Sheppard
