Details: Product Description Gilles Vigneault Amazon.ca More than a brilliant poet, storyteller and singer, Gilles Vigneault was (and continues to be) a beacon of Quebec's collective identity. In 40 years of always fruitful artistic work, he contributed to reviving the interest of the people here for their territory, their legends, their fights, their freedom always to be conquered. How to summarize a monumental work which has, among other fruits, given an unofficial national anthem to a country which is just as much? This box of two compacts only partially answers the question. Published in Sony's Émergence collection (which also includes titles by André Gagnon, Monique Leyrac, Claude Léveillée and the Séguins), it is limited to the first decade of the Natashquan man's career, before that -ci founded his own label, Le Nordet. It is obviously far from being a drama, since the songwriter has, during the 1960s, won many of his brightest stars. The undulating "J'ai pour toi un lac", the heartbreaking "Jack Monoloy", the catchy "Danse à Saint-Dilon" and "Everyone is unhappy", the mythical "Manikoutai" and the unifying "Mon Pays" find their place in this set, among other outstanding pieces from our repertoire. Another advantage: with 49 tracks to bring together the best of nine discs, including three recorded in concert, some albums are presented almost in their entirety. This is the case of the first, Gilles Vigneault (1962), and the second, Gilles Vigneault sings and recites (1963). Those who appreciate the nationalist and committed songs produced after 1969 ("Put on your parka", "Gens du pays", "Il me reste un pays"…) will prefer the more recent double box set In the sweet middle of you to this slightly lazy collection. . --Frederic Murphy
