Details: Product Description Thério, Marie-Jo Amazon.ca The second album from Marie-Jo Thério confirms the personal signature and gentle madness of this singer-songwriter. La Maline is a "great cry from the earth," she writes, a record whose power of evocation places her not far from Richard Desjardins. "I would like to be as wide as the desert/I would like to flow like a river." You can hear the cries of birds, the sea breeze, and boat sirens in the singer-musician's accordion and piano, in the distorted guitars of Bernard Falaise, and in the double bass of Eric West Millette. It is with these two talented artists, who come from the contemporary music scene, that Marie-Jo Thério created the arrangements and produced this work of slow tempos and folk accents, delivered in a confidential tone. A thirst for freedom emanates from her ethereal voice, from her compositions liberated from the verse-chorus structure, and from her fluid poetry, woven with the "franglais" of her native Acadia. She sings of confusion with an abandon that threatens at any moment to tip melancholy into anger, and serenity into a storm. Magnificent. -- Noémi Mercier
