Details: Product Description Excellent album from the Maltese singer, following up his line of previous successes, 'La Valse Des Monstes' (1995), 'Rue Des Cascades' (1997) & 'Le Phare' (1998). Tiersen is probably better known for his critically acclaimed score to the 2002 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Film, 'Amelie'. 12 tracks including 'Les Jours Tristes' feat. Neal Hannon of the Divine Comedy (the instrumental version appears in the film) & 'Le Meridien' feat. Lisa Germano. 2001. Amazon.ca A true sound architect of diffuse and mysterious atmospheres, Yann Tiersen has not finished making us travel on his melodies. Light and serious at the same time, they only ask to be imagined by the listener (the filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet was not mistaken there and entrusted him with the soundtrack of his Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain), and they also sometimes only ask to be enriched with a voice, as L'Absente perfectly shows. In line with the Black Session of 98 (released on CD a year later), during which some distinguished guests took the stage with the Breton (Dominique A, Neil Hannon, Bertrand Cantat, Married Monk, Mathieu Boogaerts etc. ), this album sees Tiersen happily surround himself with some superb organs (Lisa Germano, Neil Hannon, Dominique A… and the actress Natacha Régnier, with whom he even offers himself two duets). Musically, L'Absente recorded the collaborations of Les Têtes Raides (for two excellent pieces "Le Jour d'avant" and "La Lettre d'explication") and a "symphonic ensemble" in particular, in order to give more volume to its compositions, a choice that had never been made before, for lack of means. But far from giving into the bloated and the grandiose, Yann Tiersen maintains the intimacy and emotion that have characterized his creations until now, while enriching his orchestrations at will. If this fifth album (including Tout est calme, recorded with his friends from the Married Monk, more rock than his solo works) marks an evolution for the Breton, discovered by the general public thanks to the magnificent Le Phare (1997), it is above all by its ambition and its abundance. With L'Absente, this brilliant producer, multi-instrumentalist musician (violin, cello, viola, piano, harpsichords, melodica, vibraphone, accordion, toy piano, bells, etc.) and singer-lyricist remains unclassifiable, the only inhabitant of a very personal world. --Dambusta
