Details: Product Description Lapalme, Martin Amazon.ca A collaborator of Mononc' Serge, Robert Charlebois, and Mara Tremblay, Martin Lapalme leads a solo career that, while understated, is highly interesting. Without mincing words, he offers a biting vision of urban life, venturing here into garage rock with psychedelic accents, and borrowing there from country and blues. His impressionistic poetry takes on the appearance of a flower growing through the asphalt: beauty rubs shoulders with ugliness, happiness with pain. The energetic "Pitié," with its incisive guitars, denounces the paradoxes of modern society. "Le Premier Assisté social de l'Alpha du Centaure" recounts the delirium tremens of a welfare recipient, while "Maternelle" is a folk-flavored catharsis where painful childhood memories rise to the surface. Lapalme's stark world is populated by small miseries and may seem off-putting at first, so much does the singer avoid any censorship. Yet it remains engaging and seduces through its undeniable frankness. Fans of Fred Fortin and WD-40 will appreciate it. --Nicolas Houle
