Even if one might have feared a Hollywood take on the Samurai, it is clear that the director immerses us in the world of these warriors with millenary traditions without contempt or condescension, making his film a compelling heroic and chivalrous saga. Despite an excessive musical score and use of flashbacks, the sweeping direction magnifies the sublime sets and costumes of ancient Japan. Numerous documentaries complete the presentation of the double DVD.
